What are the Major Fragrance Families
First, a fragrance family is a way for us categorize and organize scent notes. This helps describe the overall candle and helps us understand what scents we love. Now what are the major fragrance families. Well, it depends on who you ask unfortunately. It is difficult to definitively categorize every scent because scent notes share a lot with other scent notes.
The Candle Palette's Fragrances Families
Here at The Candle Palette I have created my own Fragrance Wheel. My goal is that you when you want a specific candle you can go through these families and understand what scent notes to look for. Mine is not the only example, there are many others, but I have tried my best to organize this in a way that leads you to your favorite notes.
I started with my primary fragrance families, Natural, Fresh, and Gourmand. The same way the primary colors can create every color, these families act as large umbrella families that can include everything. The Sub-Fragrance Families blend into the other primaries like color as well. For example the Natural Fragrance Family includes anything and everything you might experience outside, though an example of a blend is the Aquatic Family. Aquatic smells have a fresh biased but includes many natural characteristics. After Organizing these I created charts where you will find specific scent notes for every family. This is my best representation of true to life scent notes.
